Item Description
2.25" w/back paper of Steiner, St. Louis. Shows Cardinal perched on a baseball bat, rim text of "St. Louis  Champions 1926/Our Cardinals." This same design, and button size, was also done for the years of 1928 and 1930. All are rare. The 1926 Cardinals won the NL pennant w/a record of 89-65 under HOF manager/second baseman Rogers Hornsby. In addition to Hornsby, the offense was led by future National Baseball Hall of Fame selectees: Chick Hafey, Jim Bottomley and Billy Southworth. The mound corps was led by a pair of HOF starters, Jesse Haines and Grover Cleveland Alexander. The Cardinals would go on to top the New York Yankees, 4 games to 3, to win World Series. Lt. trace of surface wear but totally bright and clean. Exc. Our last example, from the Muchinsky Collection, sold in 2020 for $1,427.
