Item Description
18.5x20.5" mat contains artboard w/mixed media original art for one-page cartoon published in MAD Magazine #143 in June 1971. Art is by longtime MAD cartoonist Al Jaffee (1921-2023) and is titled "Hawks & Doves" as it features Major Hawks and Private Doves. Anti-war in nature, cartoon features six panels (separated by hand-painted borders of white paint), showing "War Game Area" w/troops digging foxholes. Major Hawks arrives in Jeep but is dismayed to see Doves has dug a foxhole in the shape of a peace symbol. Jaffee has signed bottom center of last panel. Art has been matted to 15.75x17.75" and shows lt. even aging. Exc.
