Item Description
15.25x26" Masonite board w/mixed media original art for front cover to VHS cassette box for 1987 release of 1928 silent romantic drama starring Emil Janning (who won the first Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 1929 ceremony for his performances in this film and The Way Of All Flesh). Art was created by noted illustrator Charles David de Mar, an artist known for his fine art film illustrations, which were occasionally utilized for home media release such as the one offered here. de Mar depicts an injured and bleeding Janning in his role as Grand Duke Sergius Alexander. Art is unsigned, but the artist has boldly written his name on back of board along w/"Oct. 1986" date. Art has acetate overlay and two heavily aged vellum overlays (which show obvious wear) attached at top. Art displays Exc.
