Item Description
Road To The Dungeonmaster was a film written by Tony Sheer and commissioned as a New Line Cinema production to be made in Europe by James Glickenhaus. To help secure financing, they decided to create a striking visual aid in the form of a pre-release movie poster. Self-trained painter and former graffiti artist Duncan Eagleson (whose career has included designing book covers as well as creating movie posters and comic book art, illustrating a single issue each of Vertigo's flagship titles - Shade, The Changing Man and Sandman - as well as provided art for the first movie poster design for A Nightmare On Elm Street, see previous lot) was contracted in 1983 and he created a poster design incorporating the booming success (and critical scrutiny) of Dungeons & Dragons, where a group of D&D players are magically transported into the world of the game and trapped there, not as their characters, but as themselves. The project fell through however, and the film was never made. Offered here is 27x40" one-sheet poster size illustration board w/image area measuring 25x38.5". Acrylic original art w/airbrushing elements depicts silhouettes of questing group on the road to large mirror dome in bkg. Center features main character's face in a geometric cube design as malevolent hooded figure menaces in the bkg. Eagleson has signed his initials and added "1983" date at lower left. Art paper bearing Eagleson's original art has been mounted to foamcore for display purposes and has single small hole at top center margin, which has tape remnants once attaching now detached acetate overlay. Back of foamcore has inked note from the artist reading "'Road Of The Dungeonmaster' - Acrylic On Illustration Board - ©1983 Duncan Eagleson" w/the artist's address. Illustration board/foamcore margins show wear but art would make for an Exc. framed display.
