Item Description
11x17" photocopy (xerographic print) on thin orange stock. PNW flyer promoting Sun Ra and His Arkestra concert in Portland, OR at the Rainbow tavern on Thursday Sep. 11, 1986. Tape remnants in corners scattered staple pull holes from removal, minor loss in right center margin and moderate handling. Good. Sun Ra's mythical persona as an alien from Saturn began as early as the 1950s, making him one of the earliest pioneers of Afrofuturism. A major innovator in jazz, his multi-decade career also saw him championing black history and the African origins of jazz contributing to the African American cultural renaissance in the 1960s.
