1935 GUM INC. FILM FUNNIES (WITH NAMES) CARD NEAR SET CGC GRADED.
Item Description
2.5x3". 23 of 24 cards, missing just #1 W.C. Fields. ACC# R48-2. Card fronts feature humorous art of Hollywood movie stars w/questions being asked and blank word balloons. Text backs have five different numbered answers to said questions. Back text also notes a "Prize Contest" w/info on the wrappers (see next lot). All cards in this near set are variety that includes the star's name on front bottom margin (removed from later issue, again see next lot). These "Name" varieties are much rarer and thought to be the first issue, dropped to avoid possible litigation from not having the consent of the stars. Stars include: Laurel & Hardy, Chico Marx, Jimmy Cagney, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable and more. The CGC grades for the lot breakdown as follows- 6 EX-Mint(2), 5 EX(4), 4.5 VG-EX+(3), 4 VG-EX(3), 3.5 VG+(2), 3 VG(3), 2.5 Good+(2) and 1.5 Fair(4). John Grossman Collection.
