Item Description
11.75x17-3/8" Sparta artboard has pen and ink original art by Nick Cardy (1920-2013). Art depicts disabled woman in wheelchair recoiling from Superman, who has arrived to save her from fire. Original art of woman and hand-lettered word balloons were done on separate artboards that have been cut out and applied to larger Sparta board, on which features original art of Superman crashing through door. Banner w/story title (as well as mention of Metamorpho backup story) has been hand-lettered and is also applied to Sparta board as a separate piece. Publishing indicia (including image of Superman breaking chains) at top are pasted stats. Top has inked "Action" title and well as issue number and month of publication. Additional blue marker editorial notes at top margin. Back has DC copyright stamp and inking for printing job. Scattered handling wear w/margin aging/staining and some scattered glue staining around applied pieces. Some scattered staining to arm of woman. Pin holes at top margin w/staple at upper left corner.
