Item Description
3.5x6" to 6x7.25". Event dated December 18, 1888. Invitation reads "The Trustees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, request the honor of your presence at the Inauguration Ceremonies of the new building and the private view of their collections." Invitation has faint moisture stain in bottom right corner, otherwise light wear. Extremely Fine. Ticket has only minor wear and is Exc. The Metropolitan Museum of Art or the "Met" was first opened to the public in 1870 and the first expansion of the museum, referred to in this invitation, occurred in 1888. The Met is the largest art museum in the United States containing over 2,000,000 works in its holdings.
