Item Description
13x19-5/8" DC Comics artboard has pen and ink original art for the cover to the Dec. 1992 issue of PREVIEWS, a monthly catalog that features upcoming comics, news, interviews and more used to promote and order upcoming comic-related releases. The cover art for this issue featured superhero characters from Milestone Comics, an imprint published by DC Comics. This served as an introduction for many fans to the Milestone characters. "I did the pencil art," said artist Denys Cowan, co-creator of the Milestone characters and universe. "Not much to it, except it was the first or second time I drew the characters all together!" With Cowan providing the pencil original art, this left the piece in need of inking. "I remember the excitement of being asked to ink this and all the first issue covers over Denys Cowan," inker Jimmy Palmiotti said. "Since I was not familiar with the characters, I did get reference from Dwayne McDuffie for the actual suits, so I could see what I was doing. Other than that I was flattered beyond belief that they thought of me for this, and once again, I was able to have my work featured on the cover of PREVIEWS (since whatever wound up there was usually the most seen piece of art by comic fandom each month)." The cover featured the main Milestone characters - Rocket and Icon, Hardware and Static - in the forefront, w/characters from Blood Syndicate - Wise Son, Tech-9, Aquamaria, Holocaust and DMZ. The hulking, shadowed form of Brickhouse lurks in the background. Palmiotti has signed to right of DMZ image. Top margin has inked "Promotional Cover" w/former project name and issue/page numbers crossed out. Bottom margin has some penciled/inked editorial notations and piece of tape at bottom center. Artboard has some lt. scattered handling wear and dust soiling, but art remains clean and could be matted and framed for Exc. display. Historic Milestone original art.
