Item Description
Large and impressive 18.75x24.25" artboard w/mixed media original art, recreating the cover to Archie Comics #1 (Nov. 1941). Art was done in the 1990s by renowned comic book artist Murphy Anderson (1926-2016), known as one of the premier inkers of his era, who worked for companies such as DC Comics for over 50 years, starting in the 1940s during the Golden Age. He worked on characters such as Hawkman, Batgirl, Zatanna, The Spectre and Superman, as well as on the Buck Rogers comic strip. Anderson has signed at just below center right, noting "After Montana," referring to Bob Montana, the original artist who provided the cover art for the finished comic. Classic cover features Archie botching an ice skating trick as Betty and Veronica look on. Archie's pal Jughead sits despondently on the ice in the bkg. Some margin soiling at center right, but main image area remains clean and Exc. Would make for wonderful framed display.
