Item Description
13-7/8x21 artboard features mixed media original art for front cover to Marvel Fanfare #34, published by Marvel Sept. 1987. Art is by Charles Vess and features action image of The Warriors Three - Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg - leaping into action astride their horses in main image at center with smaller inset circle showing Volstagg leading goat (in reality an expectant groom Loki changed into said beast just before his wedding), referencing the Volstagg story printed in this issue. Bottom features flourished design with portrait of Loki at center, flanked on each side by horned goats. Vess has signed at lower right, adding "87" date.

The main image of Fandral (including raised sword), Hogun and Volstagg (as well as the smaller Volstagg image) were cut out and attached to artboard. Back half of Fandral's horse has been painted directly onto artboard. All is original art by Vess. A slightly altered version of this art was featured as a pinup within this issue.

This art (main image only) was also utilized for the cover to the Thor: The Warriors Three hardcover published by Marvel in 2010. The complete image was repurposed for the back cover to the Thor: The Warriors Three - The Complete Collection trade paperback issued by Marvel in 2013.

Artboard has layer separation at top right corner with .5x2.75" sliver off top left corner on back of artboard. Back also has two small sections of mounting tape at top corners. Pin holes at top corners and artboard shows some scattered margin soiling, but art remains clean and Exc. Comes with reading copy of the issue this art was created for. A wonderful multi-published piece. Gary and Dawn Guzzo Collection.
