Item Description
Lot includes original pen and ink art for complete six-page story from Sugar And Spike #16, published by DC Comics June 1958. Art is from first story, "How They Began - (A Request Number)," which serves as a flashback of how Sugar and Spike first met. Art is by Sheldon Mayer (1917-1991), who created, wrote and drew Sugar And Spike. Art is on 12-5/8x20.5" to 12-5/8x21.5" artboards and features five to seven panels per page. Inked title at top margin of first page, all others have printed title stat pasted at top (first page has remnants where one was once attached); each has inked month of publication and issue/page numbers. Each artboard has Comics Code Authority inkstamp on front at bottom left w/some scattered margin notations. Art remains clean on all. First page has inked notation at bottom margin and shows scattered aging w/strip of aged tape at top. Fine overall. Rest are VF to Exc. Nice example of Sugar And Spike original art, serving essentially as an origin to the toddler duo.
