Item Description
From same issue as previous lot, includes original pen and ink art for complete six-page story "Doll-Boy And The Boy Dolly," which was the second story in the issue and shows Sugar and Spike battling it out over dolls, w/Sugar accidentally breaking her doll by hitting Spike over the head w/it. Spike gets his own "doll," a roly-poly doll that always stands upright. Sugar and Spike attempt to put the doll to sleep, only for it to pop up again and again. Finally Sugar gets fed up and smashes it over Spike's head, breaking it, and finally allowing for the "doll" to lay down. Art is by Sheldon Mayer (1917-1991), who created, wrote and drew Sugar And Spike. Mayer has signed first panel, adding his initials to last panel. Art is on 12.25/8x20-7/8" to 12-3/8x21.5" artboards and features five to seven panels per page. Last panel features aged paste-over w/original art. Printed title stat pasted at top of each page; each has inked month of publication and issue/page numbers. Each artboard has Comics Code Authority inkstamp on front at bottom left w/some scattered margin notations. Art remains clean and VF to Exc. on all. Great comical example of Sugar And Spike original art.
