Item Description
22x28" cardboard poster by "Globe Poster Baltimore". Promoting "The Little Big Show" a 1955 review concert w/ Bo Diddley, Etta James, Charlie & Ray, Jimmy Witherspoon and Jon Thomas and His Orchestra, all of whom are pictured on this poster. Featured here is Bo Diddley and this is the earliest known poster to feature his image. Additionally, the A and B side of his very first single for Chess Records subsidiary Checker Record Co. are listed. The titular single "Bo Diddley" shot to #1 on the charts and the B-side "I'm A Man" continues to rank among the most important songs in rock 'n roll history making this an especially impressive Diddley artifact. Etta James has songs "Dance With Me Henry" and "Wallflower" listed. Top blank marquee is unused. Strip of brown paper tape along top edge. Surface paper marks along right and bottom edges and overall age toning. Fine. We have only encountered two examples of this design both w/chopped down marquee areas. Posters featuring Bo Diddley at this point is his career are infrequently offered. This example is fresh to market having recently been discovered as the backing of a mirror by a picker in the American South.
