Item Description
PLEASE NOTE - RING CONDITION IS AS DESCRIBED. WHAT YOU SEE IN OUR PHOTO (ESPECIALLY IF ENLARGED) IS NOT WHAT IS SEEN BY THE NAKED EYE. THE HIGH QUALITY OF THE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE AMPLIFIES EVEN THE MOST MINOR IMPERFECTION. LOOKING AT THE ITEM IN PERSON AND UNDER NORMAL VIEWING CONDITIONS, LITTLE TO NONE OF THIS IS EVIDENT. WHEN WE GIVE A RING LIKE THIS A HIGH GRADE, THAT IS THE ACCURATE GRADE AND A MORE TRUE ACCOUNT OF THE ITEM AS SEEN IN THE CATALOG PHOTO.

This is a prototype of the standard version used as a premium in 1946. On this version, each side has three chevrons w/a star above. On the standard version each side has only the initials "TM". The ring top of both versions is identical w/a pair of crossed six-guns and two small stars. Both versions have two rectangular cut-outs on the sides of the top and an interior mirror so that when held to the eye and viewed what is seen is 90 degrees to the right. The interior band carries the name "Robbins Co.". The chevron design base was used as early as 1942 for Capt. Midnight and used for rings given by both the Lone Ranger and Radio Orphan Annie. There is no possibility this ring resulted from a "marriage" as the pair of tabs holding ring top to ring bottom are pristine and have never been tampered with since the day they were originally folded and tightly sealed. It is likely, when Ralston wanted a 1946 ring premium, that Robbins presented this mock-up, but it was rejected in favor of the base carrying the "TM" initials as opposed to the generic star and chevrons design. The top piece has a tiny spot w/o luster on right side edge (as made) but o/w has near full, bright luster. Exc. One of only two known examples. Robert M. Overstreet Collection.
