Item Description
First is 11x14" Bristol board with pencil drawing w/loose inked outlines of a double sword wielding Red Sonja that is signed and dated 1985. Second piece is 11x17" Marvel Comics art board w/similar posed figure w/minor changes and two weapons swinging at enemies approaching from behind. Void left at top for logo. Original graphite pencil art is by Mary Wilshire. Design for the February 1986 issue #12 cover. Both have lt. aging/wear. Exc. Final cover features similar Red Sonja pose but w/one attacker jumping in from the front. Also includes 8.5x11" sheet of Mary Wilshire's vintage resume sheet that also features commericial work examples on the reverse. In 1980, she was hired by editor Larry Hama to work on Crazy Magazine for Marvel Comics. She became the artist of the Red Sonja series in 1983 and drew the comics adaptation of the character's 1985 film. Wilshire and writer Louise Simonson co-created Alistair Smythe, an enemy of Spider-Man, in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #19 (1985). After a brief stint as the artist of the New Mutants, Wilshire collaborated with Tom DeFalco on the Firestar limited series. Gary and Dawn Guzzo Collection.
