Item Description
Kit includes original envelope w/"Supermen Of America" return address and inked recipient name/address. Envelope shows scattered wear/aging and has broken closure tabs on back. Fine. 5.5x8.5" welcome letter notes contents of kit and featuring classic image of Superman breaking chains. Postscript mentions six DC comic titles - Detective Comics, Adventure Comics, More Fun Comics, Flash Comics, All American Comics and Superman. Top/bottom center has some faint spots of rust soiling but is o/w Exc. Certificate and membership kits for this club were issued in many different configurations from 1939 to 1965 (see following lots). Certificate differs in that it features "Detective Comics, Inc." copyright at bottom but no date and bears "56050" issue number. Certificate has typed member name/age/address (which matches that on envelope) on provided lines. This version of the certificate (as well as the welcome letter) mentions "Action Comics" at end. Horizontal fold at center as issued. Some lt. wear including small split at center left and a few pinpoint spots of staining at upper left. VF/Exc. Cardstock "Superman's Secret Code" decoder folder (used to decipher "Superman's Secret Message" in each issue of Action Comics) has iconic image of Superman breaking chains and back has text/code. Folded as issued but unused w/some lt. handling wear. VF/Exc. 1.25" dia. button features color image of Superman and shows moderate aging/wear but o/w remains bright and glossy. Fine overall. Harry Matetsky Collection.
