Produced by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago, these 3-3/8x5-3/8" blank backed cards were distributed over a 20-year period beginning in 1947 and running through 1966. However, further research has uncovered that each individual card can be more definitively dated by examining the copyright info at bottom front w/many examples being attributed to a much smaller time frame. The company issued new sets each year with some players being repeated over and over again while others were only released for one or two years, thus creating different levels of scarcity. Mays is widely considered a Top 5 player of all-time and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. The offered Mays card here is the "Batting" version and can be pinned down to a three-year period of distribution from 1951-53. The bold Mays signature garnered a perfect "10" autograph grade from PSA, while the Exhibit card itself earned a highly respectable 6 EX-Mint designation. This combination of a Mays rookie-era high-grade card w/ perfect signature is nearly impossible to achieve, as detailed by the PSA/DNA pop report which indicates that this is the highest graded example ever recorded by PSA w/only one other card achieving an equivalent grade. A must have for the Mays collector.
