Item Description
Issued by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago, measuring 3-3/8x5-3/8" and easily distinguishable by their blue/grey color tone photos. As w/all of the other Exhibit issues throughout the 1920s, the 1926 series was distributed nationally via penny arcade vending machines. The set consists of 128 cards, 91 of which used identical photos to the 1925 issue. The 37 new photos do not include the caption box used in 1925. One of the tougher Exhibit series, it is surmised that production was likely more limited than most other years. Gehringer made his MLB debut for the Detroit Tigers during the final week of the 1924 baseball season and would remain with the club for his entire career, through 1942. Widely regarded as the American League's preeminent second baseman of the late 1920s and throughout the 1930s. Charlie posted a career batting average of .320 with 2,839 hits (including seven 200 hit seasons) and 1,427 RBI's. Gehringer was selected for the first six MLB All-Star games and was a World Series champ w/Detroit in 1935. Elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1949. This Gehringer is one of the tougher to find pre-war HOF rookie cards, with only 11 unsigned examples ever graded by PSA. Taking it to another level entirely, the signed example presented here, and awarded a perfect "10" for the autograph, is the only signed example that PSA has ever encapsulated. It is also the highest graded PSA example, signed or unsigned. A true 1 of 1 rarity, don't pass up the opportunity to acquire a key piece for any Gehringer card collection.
