Item Description
15.5x17-7/8" Art Crest Illustration Board has mixed media original art for back panel of 1963 Aladdin metal lunchbox. Art is by Elmer Lehnhardt, who spent his career in illustration designing, conceptualizing and creating lunchboxes for the Aladdin Company. Image area measures 9x10.75" and shows Yogi Bear and Cindy Bear (depicted in her initial, blue colored design; which was changed to the more familiar modern look in 1964) w/the "Three Little Yogis" bear cubs running away from Ranger Smith, picnic baskets in hand. Of note, one Little Yogi holds an example of the lunchbox in question, the front being a pasted stat. Art has a series of attached overlays, first being acetate sheet w/applied "Yogi Bear And Friends" title as well as "©1963 Hanna-Barbera Productions" copyright strip and Aladdin name strip. Vellum overlay has text notations and draws attention to Three Little Yogis. This has centering overlay and final paper overlay, which has vellum sheet w/extensive pencil notations attached to underside; this features design changes and includes outlines of both Yogi Bear and Quick Draw McGraw (Huckleberry Hound is also mentioned). Overlays shows varying degrees of wear and aging, but art remains clean and Exc.
