Item Description
Star Wars Weekly was Marvel UK's Star Wars comic series, reprinting their American counterpart's Star Wars comics, typically split into smaller segments and published over a number of issues. Offered here is 11-1/8x16-1/8" artboard w/pen and ink original art for the cover of Star Wars Weekly #22, published July 5, 1978. This issue featured the second half of the story published in the US as Star Wars #11. Art is by Tony DeZuniga (1932-2012) and shows Luke Skywalker, C-3PO and R2-D2 scrambling on a raft as a sea serpent rears its head to attack. Top margin has blue pencil issue number and pencil notation w/DeZuniga's initials. Title and Marvel publishing indicia (as well as the story title) are pasted stats (though now loose along bottom). Back has Marvel copyright stamps. Handwritten printer notations at bottom margin. Some lt. scattered staining along bottom margin and at center left margin. Art has .25" spot of staining on C-3PO's backside and slightly larger spot of staining on raft, but art o/w remains clean. Fine/VF overall. Fresh to market and first time at auction, this piece (and other Star Wars original art offered in this auction) comes from one collector, and each is an incredible find.
