Item Description
5" overall w/1.5" cello. Steiner Engraving Co. back paper. Dated March 28, 1912. Some minor fraying along the ribbon at the top where the ribbon is attached under the collet. A few tiny print specks just above an to the left of TR's portrait at 11:30 in white field. Some gold letter application loss on ribbon text. Overall VF. Roosevelt spoke in St. Louis this day while still seeking to unseat his handpicked successor during the Republican primaries. Aiming to push the party towards a progressive place he uttered a memorable quote when stating "Whenever there is tyranny by the majority I shall certainly fight it. But the tyrannies from which we have been suffering in this country have, ninety-nine times out of a hundred, been tyrannies by a minority; that is, tyranny by privilege." It was also this day Roosevelt issued the GOP an ultimatum, that if they didn't nominate him he'd run as an independent. Wayne Otchis Collection.
