Item Description
25x38" printer's proof sheet w/three separate print images. In 1971, Harper & Row published a limited edition set of 500 boxed portfolios titled "Pictures By Maurice Sendak," each containing 20 separate lithographs from his books "In the Night Kitchen, Where the Wild Things Are" and earlier titles. This sheet w/color bars at top, was provided to Sendak for proofing purposes. Sendak has written "2 Lullabies 1 Hector" on reverse of sheet. Print images measure as follows - first Lullaby, 8x10"; second Lullaby, 7.5x11" and Hector, 5.5x15.5". Sendak has signed in black ink below each image. He did this personally for Ted Hake, and in his presence, upon one of Ted's many visits to Sendak's home, this one being in 1972. Scattered aging/handling wear, mostly to margins. Sheet VF overall but images display as NM. An exceptional piece to frame and a unique example. Hake Collection COA.
