Item Description
This issue, measuring 1.5x2.25"on thin card stock, represents the second of three consecutive annual issues produced for the Puerto Rican Winter League. Photo fronts in bw w/red text backs. Backs of cards were used to play a baseball card game. Many of the players included in this set appear w/two different photo variations. An album was produced to house cards from this series, accounting for the numerous examples in lesser condition due to paper loss on backs from album removal. Trouppe was a star catcher of the Negro Leagues and made his MLB debut for the Cleveland Indians at 39 years of age in 1952, becoming one of the oldest rookies in MLB history. Richard Merkin Collection.
