Item Description
Hand-painted 4.5" tall Playmates action figure hardcopy prototype. Figure is jointed as final production figure would be and features same overall design, just lacking peg in Donatello's palm for holding basketball accessory (not included). These painted hardcopies were created for marketing efforts such as trade shows, product packaging or marketing materials; for use as paint masters to show the factory how to paint the productions figures; artists would keep one or two such examples of their work for their portfolios as well as for any need to refer back to them for future projects. Of note, this figure was designed to capitalize on the popularity of NBA star Michael Jordan, w/Donatello sporting a red/white "Turtles" jersey w/the number "23," the same number on Jordan's Chicago Bulls jersey. A larger, Giant Slam Dunkin' Don (see following lot) was released in 1992. Some scattered paint wear, most notable to his goggles, but still Fine/VF overall.
