Item Description
Hand-painted 14.5" tall Playmates action figure hardcopy prototype, featuring same overall design as smaller Slam Dunkin' Don (see previous lot) released the year prior. Figure is jointed as final production figure would be and features same overall design, again capitalizing on the popularity of NBA star Michael Jordan, w/Donatello sporting a red/white "Turtles" jersey w/the number "23," the same number on Jordan's Chicago Bulls jersey. Such samples were used at trade shows to show buyers a realistic depiction of what the new toys from the upcoming line would look like to better help guide their assortment decisions. Prototype shows scattered paint wear, mainly affecting just "23" number on front/back of jersey. Fine/VF overall. Rad Plastic Book Photo Example. Rare and one of only five known larger scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles prototypes. This prototype was used as a Toy Fair booth sample and was obtained from a former VP of Marketing at Playmates Toys.
