Item Description
The 1961 Topps Baseball set consists of 587 cards. With the exception of some of the specialty cards, Topps returned to a vertical format with their 1961 cards, which bear a large color photograph of the player on each card's front, with his name and team affiliation printed across the bottom.
Edwin Lee Mathews was an American professional baseball third baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 17 seasons for the Boston / Milwaukee / Atlanta Braves (1952-1966); Houston Astros (1967) and Detroit Tigers (1967-68). He is the only player to have represented the Braves in the three cities they have called home. He played 1,944 games for the Braves during their 13-season tenure in Milwaukee-the prime of Mathews' career. Some career highlights include being a two time NL Home Run leader, a 12 time All-Star and a two time World Series Champion in 1957 and 1968. Eddie Mathews was inducted into the National Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1978. The autograph on the card is very strong with excellent placement without impeding the image. This signed copy is one of only five graded at this level by PSA with only nine others ever graded higher.
