Item Description
Thirty-four 13.5x19" pages and one 13.25x20" lay-out pages comprise complete story from "Brenda Starr" No. 1 comic book published Oct.-Dec., 1963 by Dell Publishing Co. First and only issue published by Dell in conjunction with successful 1940s strip that continues to this day. First page has "Brenda Starr Reporter-Dale Messick" title paste-on and art was done by Dale Messick. Missing only cover art, story is about character Basil St. John and includes larger lay-out page with character bios. Included are Brenda, Atwell Livwright, Basil St. John, Hank O'Hair, Pesky Miller, Twirl O'Curl, Teaser Combs, Abretha Breeze, Jack Pott and gossip columnist Killbirdie. Great page with portraits and many stars. Includes VG copy of actual comic which states "Brenda Solves The Mystery Of The Poisoned Black Orchid" on front cover. Well-read issue and just comes along. Art has handling wear and dust soiling along margins, art remains Exc. Obtained via estate sale of former Dell staff artist in the early 1990s.
