Item Description
See previous 2 items #1418-1419. "Chef Donald" originally appeared in the Dec., 1941 issue of Good Housekeeping. Beautiful fully-painted art with "Walt Disney's Donald Duck - Chef Donald" titles. Donald is depicted cooking a holiday treat. Huey, Dewey and Louie spy this treat through an open window and plot to take it. Donald intercepts their plans and switches the treat with a sack of water, soaking the boys. The art is done in 3 main odd-shaped panels with attractive and creative mat that enhances and ties the art together. Two separate border panels with holly leaf and berry pattern also nicely tie in presentation. Art comes in an attractive gold wood frame with plexiglass cover. Overall size is 25x31.5". Displays N. Mint as framed, ready for display. This art was originally part of an exhibit and subsequent auction in 1987 by V. Alexander Gallery of New York. A very nice quality hardcover book was produced for the exhibit and a copy of that book also comes along with art. Book is 8.5x11" and features a total of 65 pieces of Good Housekeeping art noting titles and original appearance dates. Exc. Also comes with a complete copy of the Dec., 1941 Good Housekeeping magazine and a pair of bound volumes for complete year of 1941. Covers are Fine. Contents are Exc. While the animated short "Chef Donald" features Donald Duck alone in a basic struggle with waffle batter, Porter and his theme re-thought the story with the page's holiday publication in mind. Not only do Donald's nephews add to the fun, but the finished page became the only significantly Christmas-themed Disney piece ever to appear in Good Housekeeping.
