Item Description
Complete Tom Wood preliminaries for the March 1940 Good Housekeeping page. All five panels of the finished page drafted on full 12-field animation sheets with art in combination of lead and red pencil. Each sheet is 12x17”, art image area is typically 6x8”. Each sheet has additional notations, first sheet has small layout art at top right showing how the art was to appear on the page. The first panel does not have all the details that were added to the final printed page. However, the other four have finished art as it appeared on the finished page. “Donald’s Elephant” was notable for being based on a cartoon, then in production, that was never finished or released. Alternately called “Spring Cleaning,” “Pluto’s Pal Bobo,” and “Pluto’s White Elephant,” the shelved short was at various times to have paired Pluto, Donald, and/or Mickey with elephant Bobo from the earlier “Mickey’s Elephant.” (1937). Sheets lightly aged and have moderate handling wear. Sheets are Fine, all art remains Exc. A very interesting set showing insight into how these Good Housekeeping pages progressed thought various stages.
