Item Description
Harvey really worked hard to make this title the best sports themed comic possible. While Babe Ruth’s smiling visage was on the cover, the main attraction of the title was the incredible variety of sports that they actually covered. Who was doing hockey covers in 1950? Hardly anyone, yet this issue features future Hockey Hall of Famer Turk Broda on an action-packed cover. To some kid who may have never seen a hockey game before, Harvey really made it look exciting. In addition to hockey, they put bowling on the cover. This issue features the story of professional bowler Andy Varipapa, whereas any other publisher would have always featured baseball, football or boxing. For this issue, they put Sugar Ray Robinson, one of the most popular boxers ever, in the bottom left corner. This book was ESPN before television knew how to do anything besides game shows. Of course, they did pay a price; it was canceled after 11 issues. This issue has cream to off-white pages. The book is CGC-certified NM 9.4. This is the highest graded copy that CGC has listed on their census.
