Item Description
33mm (1-5/16") brass with much original silvering on the front. This specimen is most likely an example listed in Albert's book as WI-12B. This variety is described in Albert as having a border of 54 marks, however on this example 4 at the top are worn and only 50 marks are distinct. Also, a smoothly-punched 1/8" dia. hole at the top removed the star design above the eagle's head. This was likely done so the piece could be used as a fob for keys. The reverse shank is gone. The eagle image is well-struck and only once before have we seen a specimen with this much original silver luster remaining. While the hole is regrettable, still a very solid example and exceptional for the amount of remaining luster. A most reasonable opening bid.
