Item Description
18.5x21" beautiful frame contains professionally double-matted display of original production cels for 1934 Fleischer cartoon "Poor Cinderella." Featured are 2 matching overlapping cels, one showing Betty in her ruffled undergarments and the other of her ball gown as seen. Set against a color photostat of actual production bkg. from the 1934 cartoon. There are less than 10 bw cels that our consignor knows of existing, from the late 1930s, toward the end of Betty Boop's Fleischer career which ended in 1939. "Poor Cinderella" was the only time Betty Boop appeared in a Fleischer cartoon in color and was in fact Fleischer's first color cartoon, as part of the "Color Classics" series. Our consignor knows of only 2 original color cels of Betty Boop in existence, from the 1930s Fleischer Studios, both from this 1934 "Poor Cinderella" cartoon. Animated short was the retelling of the classic Cinderella story and scene shows Betty rushing from ballroom at the stroke of midnight. Short utilized Cinecolor, a 2-strip color process and as such, Betty's hair was colored red as opposed to her usual black. Short also used Fleischer's Tabletop process, a multiplane camera technique used to give the scene additional depth. There were later Betty Boop cartoons produced cheaply in color in the 1960s and 1970s, but can't compare to the quality of this piece. Ground-breaking and historically important, this beautiful piece is extremely rare and a must for any Betty Boop fan.
