Item Description
22x27.25" ornate frame contains art that has been triple-matted to 13x17.75". Done in mixed media, this piece recreates cover to "Batman" No. 55 comic published by DC Comics Oct./Nov., 1949. Art was done Jan., 1990 by beloved Golden Age Batman artist Dick Sprang. Art shows Batman and Robin swooping through window to apprehend The Joker who sits at microphone, bottle with Joker image on it beside him. Behind Joker is large US map, each state having Joker face on it. As noted in Sprang's hand-written note on reverse, "This Cover, Which I Drew In Its Original Size (Duplicated Here) In 1949, Appeared On Batman No. 55 Oct.-Nov. 1949 As The Lead-in To My Story 'The Case Of The 48 Jokers.' This Is My First Re-creation Of The Cover, And Was Rendered In Jan., 1990 Specifically For Charlie And Joan Roberts. Dick Sprang Jan. 1990." Also accompanied by typed letter from Sprang with a few ink corrections, Sprang signing in ink at bottom. N. Mint. Classic Batman art.
