Item Description
14x33" long "Westinghouse Lamps" display envelope contains Popeye display and has directions on how to assemble display as well as bw photos of finished display. Wear/aging and is Fine overall. Comes w/4 thin cardboard standees, each w/different character including Popeye, Wimpy, Olive Oyl and Olive's brother Castor Oyl. Each is about 9.75x29" tall. Each full color charcter standee has tall lattice-like ladder above design to hold Westinghouse Mazda Lamps boxes for display. Popeye stands on dock w/"Westinghouse-Mazda Lamps" life preserver which has "There's No Trick To Having Good Light!" Popeye was designed to hold 70 or 100 watt bulb sleeves. Castor Oyl stands in front of building w/company name and "Keep A Supply Of Lamps On Hand!" slogan. Castor is designed to hold 50 or 60 watt bulb sleeves. Wimpy stands in front of fence and eats hamburger w/slogan "Don't Forget To Remember! Bring Home A Stack Of Lamps." Olive has "Here They Are Folks!" and looks up at display w/nervous look on her face. Both Wimpy and Olive were designed to hold 25 or 40 watt bulb sleeves. ©1934 Westinghouse Lamp Co. reproduced by permission w/King Features Syndicate. Comes w/vintage "Westinghouse Mazda Lamps" bulb sleeve that is 5x5.5" and 14 reproduction sleeves for display purposes. Display worked by balancing sleeves on zig-zag display ladders in a tower fashion. Top of display was used to then hold lightbulb. Overall Exc. Top of Wimpy ladder has staining but all character areas remain clean and bright. As impressive as any Popeye display we've seen, this is the only example of this display we've seen and we've never even offered individual pieces, let alone a complete set. Rare.
