Item Description
Lot comes with 8.5x11” typed letter with "Buchanan & Company, Inc. Advertising" letterhead that is dated Nov. 4, 1942 and is addressed to Glenn Cravath in Whitestone, New York. Letter notes “Returning Herewith Your Photos Of Frank Buck.” No reason or purpose of photos is provided but they were likely sent to agency to select from for product or movie publicity uses. Lot of 51 glossy 8x10” stills break down as follows: 6 close-up portraits with name “Cravath” in grease pencil on margin, 23 showing Frank Buck along or with others showing scenes from his 1937 Columbia serial “Jungle Menace;” 10 more from “Jungle Menace” not showing Buck, 3 showing giant boa constrictor. Nine others are photos of well-done artwork. Images were outlined in pencil and most reverses are covered in black crayon as if outlining was done to transfer image onto another paper. This outlining shows very little. Likely related to “Jungle Menace.” A few photos have pencil or correctional fluid from use in publications but vast majority are clean and Exc. Final item is 4.5x5.25” album page with Buck’s large and bold signature in black ink. Owner added printed name of “Frank Buck” to bottom margin in ink. Center area around signature has some tape residue staining although largely above and below signature itself. Fine. Comes with Hake’s COA.
