Item Description
13x17” image area. 18.5x23.5” mat. Art is matted by the original collector who presented this as part of a traveling editorial cartoon exhibition. Pen and ink on artboard. Signed lower right Donahey. Appeared in Cleveland Plain Dealer Sep. 17, 1948. Notation on back includes “Westward Ho!/1948 Truman Campaign.” Truman spoke of the efforts to establish a national science foundation, but it was his characteristically blunt criticism of “smears” against scientists by Communist hunting congressman that had made headlines in the New York Times and the Washington Post. Seen in the back of Truman’s wagon is jar of “Science Smear,” a large fish reading “Red Herring,” and bag filled with “Hatch-Et Bill.” Clean, bright and VF.
