Item Description
12x14.5”. Ink on artboard. Caption at top margin in pencil. Much action in this cartoon with characters identified climbing the peak including J.J. Walsh, Gaston, Whipple, McCall, Walker. Sign in Lodge’s mustache reads “Fitz Expedition 1916.” Fitzgerald (JFK’s grandfather) ran against Henry Cabot Lodge for his Senate seat in 1916. Lodge narrowly defeated Fitzgerald, thus beginning a great rivalry between the two families. Fitzgerald’s daughter, Rose, desperately wanted to avenge her father’s defeat by the Lodges and she got her chance when her handsome and charming son , Congressman John F. Kennedy, ran against Lodge’s grandson and namesake Henry Cabot Lodge for a Senate seat. This artwork was part of a traveling editorial cartoon exhibition. Lt. aging with 2x6" light moisture stain at bottom right. Still displays Fine.
