Item Description
Lot of 2. Both c. 1880s-1890s. First is 11x14” overall with 8x10” image area. Great inside image of milliner’s shop. More than 2 dozen hats are displayed on countertop hat racks and in large glass cases. A glass light chandelier hangs from the ceiling. A beautiful oriental rug is seen on the floor. Many of the hats are using exotic bird feathers and flowers. 1x1.25” upper left corner of mat missing, not affecting this wonderful image. Image remains Exc. Second is 7.25x10.5” overall. 4.75x7.5” image area. A wonderful pose of 10 beautiful Victorian ladies dressed in elaborate flowered hats and capes. Each is identified in ink on the back. Right edge trim not affecting this clear and clean image. Ladies appear to be the forerunners of today’s “Red Hat Society.” Image is Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
