Item Description
Listed in DeWitt/Sullivan as SC1868-1, this composition token, an early form of plastic-like material, was executed in several different color variations and this one is cream on purple. 1.25” dia. by 3/16” thick. Reverse slogan reads “Loyalty Shall Govern What Loyalty Has Preserved.” DeWitt states the dies were probably made by George Lovett. Front extreme edge has about 8 exceedingly tiny flakes off, none bigger than 1/16” long. Reverse extreme rim has 3 flakes. Still a beautiful and seldom seen piece, one of the earliest to depict the vice presidential candidate by himself.
