8x10”. Great vintage matte finish photo. Group of well-dressed black men wearing neckties and straw hats. Johnson is front and center with well-polished shoes and cane looking quite dapper. Penciled text on back reads “Sam Dudley Of Washington DC Left. Jack Johnson – The World Heavyweight Champion In Front Center. Picture Taken In Washington. Johnson Was Showing At The Howard Theater In Washington 7th And T. Street. All Others In Picture Were Friends Of Dudley. Dudley Owned Several Apartment Houses And Theaters In Town At The Time. Pictured Taken Sometime In Early 1920s Near 1923 or 24. Johnson Had Small Well Shaped Feet For His Size. He Was A Big Powerful Man. Johnson Was Very Cocky And Sure Of Himself. Very Much Raped (misspelled) Up In Himself.” Slightest aging. Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
