Item Description
8x11”. 70 different. c. 1950s. Issued by Alerta News, Havana. Set consists of 4 teams: Almendares Scorpions (18), Habana Lions (18), Cienfuegos Elephants (17), Marianao Tigers (17). Appears set is missing just 2. One photo sheet to note in particular of Willie Miranda who was a popular short stop in the Cuban professional winter league, distinguishing himself as an outstanding fielder. He became even more famous in his native country for being the first Cuban player to be signed and play for the New York Yankees. He played short stop in the major leagues from 1951 to 1959. Each photo was once numbered by a previous owner at top corner. These numbers are now covered with dots of White-Out. Additional scattered dots of White-Out appear on most/many pics. Other scattered wear/aging. Overall Fine. Extensive group. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
