Item Description
16x19.5" overall. 10x13" image area. Double matted. Professionally framed, the framer has left a 7x7" square opening in the back mat covered with thin Plexiglas to allow viewing of the attached press release. Dated June 23, 1940. Caption "'Lippy' Durocher In Another Battle Of Words." Content reads in part "NYC Leo (Lippy) Durocher, Dodger Manager (back to camera), Dolf Camilli, Brooklyn First Sacker (facing camera, mouth open) And Umpire Jorda Go Into A Heated Discussion At First Base Over Van Robays (Pirate left fielder) Scratch Hit Down The First Base Line On Which Van Robays Reached First Safely And Which Allowed Vaugn, Pirate Short Stop To Score In The Third Inning Of The First Game Between The First Place Dodgers And Pittsburgh Pirates At Abbott's Field Today, June 23..."  Photo back-stamped "International News Photos."  Moderate scattered handling wear/crease mostly only visible in reflected light.  Overall Fine but displays Exc. as framed.  A classic image of Durocher whose career was dogged by clashes with umpires as he amassed 95 career ejections.  Durocher was inducted into the HOF in 1994. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
