2-1/8” from the Levin Collection. She was of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation whose 1972 trial for the shooting of a man who had attempted to molest her son became a cause célèbre of the feminist and native rights movement. This button is c. 1975-76 when her murder conviction was in Appeals Court. Her case reached the Washington Supreme Court, where it had lasting effects on the manner in which juries interpret the behavior of a defendant, the legality of recorded conversations and considerations for victims of sexual assault.
