Item Description
3.5x6.5” envelope and 7.25x8.5” sheet of stationery both feature Athletics logo, elephant mascot image and Connie Mack Stadium Philadelphia, PA address. Done by a 91-yr.-old Mack to “Mairdie Mack,” one of his nieces. Mack would pass away less than 2 years later in 1956. Connie Mack who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1937 has one of the most storied histories in all of baseball standing as the longest serving manager in MLB history and holding records for total wins, losses and games managed. He managed the Philadelphia Athletics for the club’s first 50 seasons of play before retiring following the 1950 season, and was at least part owner from 1901 to 1954, the year of this letter. His 5 World Series titles remain the third most by any manager. This letter which is dated June 8, 1954 reads in full “Dear Mairdie, I Will Be Down And See Them Play Baltimore On June 25th We’ll See You On The Evening Of The 25th Of June – Will You See Me On That Date. Southern Hotel-I Love You Sincerely Connie Mack.” 1954 was the first season of the modern Orioles, previously existing as the St. Louis Browns from 1902 to 1953. The envelope also hand-addressed by Mack has moderate aging and edge wear, having been opened along right edge. VG. Letter has lt. aging and handling wear as originally folded. Clean and VF. Comes with JSA LOA and Hake’s COA.
