Item numbers 1 through 1186 in auction 200
Item Description
5x8” on high quality glossy finish photographic textured card stock. Front features great image of McGraw seated and reading. Opens to reveal text in Spanish for January 31, 1932 tribute banquet in honor of McGraw at the Jockey Club-East Park believed to be in Cuba. Text is printed over baseball diamond design. Boldly signed on top margin of front cover “John J. McGraw.” This banquet dates to just 2 years prior to his death of Feb. 25th 1934 at the age of 60. One of the true legends of baseball, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1937. As a player, he lead the league in runs scored in 1898 and 1899 but his career as a manager which followed his playing days is legendry. As manager of the New York Giants from 1902-1932, he lead the team to ten NL pennants and three world championships and overall ranks second behind only Connie Mack with the most victories as a manager. Entire menu has scattered trace of aging including some age spotting. Trace of margin wear to cover with some tiny surface nicks, none of which affect image or signature. Fine. Rare and historic. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
