8.75x11.5” from 1946-1947 issued by Cuban Caramel Co. Title reads “Propagandas Montiel Presenta Los Reyes Del Deporte” with key words basically translating as Sport Kings/Famous Athletes. Great multi-sport illustrated front cover with emphasis on baseball and boxing (also the emphasis on the content). Back cover includes illustration of “The Great Stadium Of Havana.” 32 pages. Designed to hold set of 180 paper picture cards. Pages include additional sports-related illustrations around card mounting areas along with that athlete’s name and short bio. 163 of the 180 card set is here and all but one have been mounted at appropriate spots. The first several pages feature boxers and those cards that are here include Jack Johnson, Gene Tunney, Primo Canera, Max Baer, Joe Louis. The highlight of the album is an extensive selection of Major League Baseball players which include Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Bob Feller, Lou Gherig, Hank Greenberg, Stan Musial, Mel Ott, Jimmie Foxx, Andy Pafko, Carl Hubbell, Christie Mathewson, John Mize and more. Other baseball players include those from the Florida International League as well as some Cuban League players. Cuban players include DiHigo, Marsans, Luque. A few additional cards feature wrestlers, tennis player. Of the 17 missing cards, 12 are boxers, others are ball players of no real significance. The missing card numbers are 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 16, 18, 20, 30, 36, 90, 96, 136, 150, 171. The single loose card is #58, Joe DiMaggio. Back of card has matching bio to that printed on the page where it was to be mounted. This card has lt. aging and has trace of handling wear. VG/Exc. Overall the cards show typical trace of aging as mounted, some more than others but overall remain VG/Exc. Album itself shows obvious wear and aging. Center 12 pages loose from staples. Cover itself pulled loose from lower staple but still intact by top staple although additional wear along spine edge. Margin wear to cover and pages including some small moisture stains at corner tips. Album Good. A rare and desirable Cuban album loaded with stars and Hall of Famers. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
