Item Description
The Rochester Red Wings are a minor league baseball team based in Rochester, NY. The oldest and longest running minor league franchise in the history of professional sports. The Red Wings were an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals for 32 years (1929-1960), then spent 42 years (1961-2002) as a farm team of the Baltimore Orioles before moving on to the Twins in 2003. This jersey is from 1964, a year in which the team won the Governor’s Cup by defeating the Syracuse Chiefs. Home jersey of cream-colored flannel with button-down front, all 7 buttons intact. Embroidered name of “Red Wings” across chest, sewn-on felt “7” patch below name on front and larger matching number on back. Left sleeve has sewn-on felt patch of baseball with wings and bears the number “8223.” Manufacturer’s label sewn to bottom front reads “Rawlings 42” and below this are additional labels, one with cleaning instructions and the other reading “Set 1 1964.” Light trace of wear/aging although only one defect to directly point out, a 1/8” hole along front right edge. Appearance remains clean overall and displays as VF. Comes with matching wool stirrup socks which show scattered trace of wear, a number of small holes. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
