8x10” vintage bw glossy photo shows jazz tenor saxophonist Thomas playing his alto sax. Thomas played sax under Horace Henderson, playing tenor from the time he joined Stuff Smith’s band onward, later playing with Jimmie Luncford's band from 1933-1947. Signed in blue ink “To ‘Beverly’ Success And Happiness. Your Pal Joe Thomas 6/5/42.” 1/8” chip off upper left corner with some minor corner tip wear which could be matted out for an Exc. display. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
