5.75x8.5” hardcover with 437 pages. Published 1979 by Farrar Straus. Original, un-clipped dust jacket included. Shows lt. handling wear but Exc. overall. Written by one of the founders of the New Journalism movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Story revolves around the pilots engaged in JS post-war experiments with rocket powered, high-speed aircraft as well as documenting the stories of the first Project Mercury astronauts seleted for the NASA Space Program. Book was made into a movie released in 1983. Book itself has been elaborately inscribed in brown ink to Tom Wolfe’s personal friend, the artist Richard Merkin “For Richard, Veteran Of The Air Force And Miss Black-Burn Campaigns, Who Forgives Pace Frazier Clip-On Dollar Pins And Immortalizes Sinners Nonetheless, From Tom Wolfe December 1, 1979.” Book is N. Mint. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
